Beautiful Homes: Interior Decorating for Beginners (IW)
Got a passion for beautiful, harmonious living spaces? This interior design and decorating course will teach you all the tips and trick the pros use to create breathtaking interiors in a wide range of different styles.
Learn about the elements of design (space, line, forms, light, colour, texture and pattern) and the principles that guide their use (unity, balance, rhythm, emphasis, contrast, scale & proportion, and details). Each class will incorporate formal content, lots of examples, and practical exercises, and students will finish the course with moodboards and decorating plans to implement in their own homes.
Time: Wednesday, 25 July- 22 August 2018, 9:30-11:00am
Duration: 5 x 1.5 hour workshops, 7.5 hours total

Week 1: The Creative Process
Introductions; Objective of the Course; The Creative Process; Understanding and Defining your style; Sources of inspiration; Taking an idea and turning it in to reality; Any student real life projects
Week 2 : Elements and Principles of Design
Understanding and recognizing : Line, direction shape, texture, tone, colour, proportion, harmony, contrast, dominance, balance, rhythym, repetition, unity
Week 3: Colour and Light
Understanding the psychology of colour; Discussing the effects of colour; The Colour Wheel (primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary colours); learning to love and work with your least favourite colour; tones and hues; types of lighting, their uses, importance and effects.
Week 4: Spacial Planning, Trends, Materials, Décor, Furniture and Suppliers
Understanding traffic flow and circulation; working with your environment; understanding clients needs and wants; understanding trends and how to use them; discussing various furnishings, soft furnishings and décor
