Want to learn (or remember) how to sew? This course will guide you through the basics of sewing and build on your skills each week with a range of simple projects including kids' bloomers/shorts and a girl's dress - perfect for summer!
You will get to know your machine and gain a new set of skills including basic construction, reading a pattern, finishing seams, fitting garments, sewing buttonholes and inserting a zipper.
Duration: 4 x 2 hour sessions, once weekly for 4 consecutive weeks
Date & Time: Mondays, 10am - 12pm OR Wednesdays 10am - 12pm
Location: 186B Victoria Rd, Drummoyne
(Free parking is available on Victoria Rd from 10am-3pm and there is plenty of parking on surrounding streets)
Bookings must be made by 29th January 2021.
All classes come with our nanny service so you can learn a new skill and get some 'me time'
Course outline
Week 1 – Learn to use the machine
Week 2 – Bloomers/Shorts
Week 3 – Girl's dress
Week 4 – Cushion Cover
Week one – The basics
We will learn all about our machines, what all those knobs and buttons do, how to thread it and practice stitching. You will also learn about seam allowances and finishing a garment
Week two – Bloomers/Shorts
A great quick little projects to begin learning about cutting out a pattern on the fabric and basic construction.
Fabric to bring: 50cm x cotton fabric
Week three – Girl's dress/T-shirt
We’ll expand on our constructions skills this week with making a little girls a-line dress/T-shirt. You’ll be sewing curves around armholes.
Fabric to bring: 1m x cotton fabric
Week four – Cushion Cover
It's time to face the Zip! Bring in a cushion you want to re-cover and we will learn how easy it is to make a pattern and put in a zip! We will practice by making a simple pencil case (fabric & zip provided) and take that skill to making a cushion cover.
Fabric to bring: 1m cotton fabric, 1 zip to match (length dependent on insert size) and 1 cushion insert.
Class sizes will be kept small and according to Covid regulations. If circumstances changes and classes are cancelled you will be issued a refund.
You will need to bring your own sewing machine however a small number of machines are available for hire for a small extra fee.
